OAE Test in Jaipur

Otoacoustic Emissions or OAEs are very soft sounds which are generated in the cochlea in response to a sound stimulus. To record OAEs a healthy middle ear with good sound conduction is required. Presence of OAEs is indicative of normal cochlear amplifier functioning.

There are two types of OAEs which we use in clinical settings.

Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions (TEOAE) are acoustic events generated by the outer hair cells in response to a transient click. TEOAEs record responses to broad spectrum stimulus.

Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE) are result of an intermodulation distortion produced by outer hair cells in response to two pure tone stimuli that are nearby in frequency. DPOAEs are frequency specific indicator of outer hair cell functioning.
